Level measurement
Level Sensors for Every Need
In almost all industrial processes involving tanks, silos, or containers, it is important to know how much material is stored – or at least whether a tank is full or empty. This is handled by level sensors.
They continuously measure the fill level and can trigger alarms or control a process when a certain level is reached. Different technologies are used for this purpose, with radar and ultrasonic being the most common. The measured values are converted into electronic signals and integrated into the control system.
Radar Measurement
Radar sensors use microwave pulses to precisely determine the level of liquids and solids. They are highly reliable even in harsh environments such as dust, steam, or extreme temperatures. Therefore, they are widely used in demanding industries such as chemical, petrochemical, and food processing.
Measurable media:
- Liquids
- Bulk solids
- Powders
- Pasty media
Advantages of radar:
- Very high accuracy and reliability
- Operates across wide temperature and pressure ranges
- Unaffected by dust, steam, vacuum, and contamination
- Compact and easy to integrate
- Suitable for aggressive and corrosive media
- Low energy consumption
- No calibration required and minimal maintenance
Ultrasonic Measurement
Ultrasonic sensors use sound waves to measure the level in containers. They are cost-effective, easy to install, and well-suited for standard applications. They are commonly used for liquids and bulk solids in both open and closed containers.
Measurable media:
- Liquids
- Bulk solids
- Powders
- Pasty media
Advantages of ultrasonic:
- Cost-effective and proven technology
- Easy to use and maintain
- Resistant to many environmental influences
- Non-contact measurement makes them suitable for abrasive or aggressive media
Sensor Selection
The choice of sensor depends on your application:
- Radar: Highest precision and reliability, even in tough environments
- Ultrasonic: Simple and cost-effective solution for many standard applications
